So you’ve been told you need a dental implant? Not to worry, you are in good hands! Let’s run through what this means and the process of an implant.
Dental implants replace missing teeth and once healed, they can look and feel like natural teeth. Implants along with correct maintenance can be long lasting.
Dental Implant Process:
Initial Assessment: You will first undergo an assessment by either a general dentist or a specialist to determine the feasibility of the implant treatment. These issues are normally picked up in your routine examinations with your general dentist.
Imaging & Treatment Plan: X-rays and any additional imaging will be taken as necessary. Based on the results, our team will create a personalised treatment plan, which includes a detailed breakdown of costs. This is also the ideal time in the dental implant process to address any questions or concerns you may have with your clinician.
Procedure Appointment: You will then be scheduled for your dental implant procedure with one of our skilled specialists, either Mr. Jonas Osher or Dr. Nikos Mardas. During this appointment, an impression of your mouth will be taken.
The Implant Procedure: During the dental implant procedure the area will be numbed with local anaesthesia, and the specialist will make a small incision in the gum. A small hole will be drilled into the jawbone, and the implant will be carefully placed. The incision will then be closed with stitches.
Healing and Follow-Up: After approximately 3 months of healing, you will return for a follow-up appointment with the specialist to ensure the implant has properly integrated with the bone. Another impression will be taken at this time to prepare for the fitting of a crown or denture over the implant.
Final Restoration: The impressions will be sent to the lab to create the final restoration, which typically takes around 2 weeks. Once the lab work is completed, we will schedule your appointment to fit the crown or denture with a general dentist.
