Conceal any cosmetic imperfections in your smile with custom made porcelain veneers.
A dental veneer is a thin layer of porcelain (or occasionally natural colour composite material) custom-made to fit over the front surface of a tooth.
Porcelain veneers can improve the colour, shape and (to a small extent) the position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured tooth or to lighten multiple front teeth. A veneer also makes a chipped tooth look whole again.
Veneers can also be used to close small gaps when orthodontic treatment is not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a porcelain veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it in line with the others.
Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy. Because they are very thin and are held in place with a special adhesive, very little preparation of the tooth is necessary; in fact, some types of veneer require no preparation at all.
At our practice in London, we use porcelain veneers to improve a number of issues such as:
Composite veneers conceal minor cosmetic issues using composite resin (the same material used for composite build-ups) and no enamel is removed.
Porcelain veneers are custom-made at the laboratory. Before placement, your cosmetic dentist must remove some enamel from your natural teeth so there is space for the veneers to be fitted.
There are four steps in the process of getting you porcelain veneers at our practice in London: consultation, wax up, preparation and fitting.
During your consultation, one of our dentists will examine your teeth and gums to determine if you’re eligible for porcelain veneers and to discuss your goals and what you want to achieve with us. If you are eligible and happy to proceed then the dentist will need to prepare your smile with the dental laboratory and take a digital scan and images to send to them. These digital scans will be used to design your porcelain veneers.
A wax up is a 3D model of the mouth. It is taken from impressions which makes it an exact replica, allowing our team to change the shape of your teeth and see how the porcelain veneers will look when they are finished. It’s a great way ensure that both our team and you are happy with how the end results will look.
Once the wax up has been approved and we can prepare your permanent porcelain veneers, ready for them to be fitted. During this stage you may also have temporary veneers placed before your fitting appointment.
This is when your permanent porcelain veneers are finally attached. A member of our team will use a strong dental glue to secure your veneer permanently, giving you your brand new smile! The process of fitting your veneers can also be called bonding.
